ngl this was so disappointing, like from the get-go the pacing felt so stilted and off and I wasn't invested in the setting or any of the characters
everything was just like huh
like what's with the 陸上 and why is no one questioning bro's sudden transformation and why so many boobies and drugs and random ppl rapping lol

also the engrish 💀 listen I love murase ayumu's beautiful androgynous voice, but bro's accent took me out of the story so much every time he spoke English, or when any of the English vas spoke as a matter of fact! seriously! who was doing quality control/casting for those ppl bc this shit was painful to listen to... if they had consulted 1 person w native ears (e.g., me lol) for the casting this could've been avoided! I guess it doesn't matter for the jp audience but still this is on netflix so ppl worldwide watch it! oh well, still love murase ayumu tho, esp at the end! bro's voice was angelic even tho he's literally Satan!

so yeah, back to the plot! tldr it's kinda all over the place and very mid!
I get the "deeper meaning" of it all, but man, it was conveyed with as much finesse as a bull in a china shop. I know the source material is from the 70s so it might've been more fresh as a concept back then, but the whole devilman/human/devil dilemma that the show tries to tackle comes across as really... surface level? ham-fisted and kinda corny esp with all the nazoi rikujyo stuff interspersed?? and I've already seen stuff like aot and eva (which was inspired by the devilman manga) that imo executed the psychological/moral aspects of similar themes way better (granted with a much longer run time but I feel like my point still stands nonetheless)

I guess the main gripe I have with the show is that it never got me to care about the characters or humanity in general? I wasn't even pissed or sad about everyone getting killed off at the end because quite frankly I never really cared in the first place! or? was that the point? making you feel Ryo-levels of emotional detachment while watching this? ...nah I don't think so lol but yeah I did like the ending scene! bleak but pretty! it was giving the end of eva ending which I also liked! and Satan unlocks emotions! wow! the power of doomed yaoi! can't believe hinata killed tsukki 😭

anyway uhh what else... oh the OP is a banger! need to add denki groove to my playlist. also the eurobeat soundtrack and the hypersexual club scenes were giving Climax (2018) dir. Gaspar Noé which I actually did like but I was drunk when I watched it so idk lol avant garde type stuff is such a hit or miss for me, sometimes I'm locked the fuck in and then other times it's like "shit's happening but why should I care" and this show was unfortunately the latter 😔 sad bc I do want to watch other stuff directed by masaaki yuasa, hopefully I'll enjoy his other works. I'm just sad I didn't like this that much, I was so expecting it to be right up my alley. oh well, I appreciate this exists tho! God bless the poor unfortunate souls who happen to stumble upon this on netflix without knowing what it is 😭
