I kinda have like "meh" relationship with Peter Berg, I liked "Lone Survivor" and "The Kingdom" and even "Hancock" but his last two movies "Deepwater Horizon" and now "Patriots Day" were kind of meh. Mark Wahlberg was miscast in both movies, I know he is from Boston and all but he did not work for me. On the plus side, the blend between real and film footage was done masterfully, but at 2h13m the movie felt 30 minutes too long. "Patriots Day" is nowhere near what "Sully" was able to achieve dramatizing a real-life story we all know
Slightly convoluted and unnecessarily stretched out, but one thing for sure Patriots Day proof once again that Peter Berg's ability to handle hand-held camera-work is second to none. The sheer realism projected by his filmmaking elevate this film into an intense nail-biting ride, while doing justice to the portrayal of the tragedy.
