Such a massive disappointment considering I love Ben Affleck and his directorial work. The Town is one of my favorite movies ever. And I was excited that Affleck was returning to his bank robbing crime roots.
But the story was just so uninteresting. It started off strong, with Affleck's Joe Coughlin rising from nothing as he attempts to make his way into the business. But for a movie about gangsters and prohibition, there was a huge lack of action and tension.
Usually in these gang films, you don't know if any conversation moments are going to end with a shootout or someone dying. But that tension was never present in this movie. Half of the business meetings that Affleck has was just boring.
And it's such a waste since the directing was amazing. Especially one shootout scene towards the end. But for every good scene in this movie, there's another scene that really bores you and makes you feel the runtime.
It's been a tough time for Ben Affleck lately, and I hope he comes around. Live By Night was half of a good movie that really could have been better.
