The long awaited Justice League movie is finally here! We had to sit through some poor introduction to the extended DC universe in Batman V Superman, but nevertheless it’s finally here!
Surprisingly my expectations were low. Super low. It looked like a jumbled CG mess from the trailers, and it looked liked another overblown Zack Snyder misfire.
But what I really liked about this movie were the characters. Batman wasn’t a moppy sad psycho killer like he was in BvS. Luckily Ezra Miller’s Flash lightens him up. Their back in forth really worked here. In fact Batman interacts with other people in different ways. Which showed a lot of depth to his character.
I liked his partnership with Wonder Woman, his beef with Aquaman, and a little bit of both with Cyborg.
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman also continues to amaze me. She’s come a long way since her Fast & Furious days.
A lot of the newcomers had some great character moments too. You could tell their personalities just by what they say and how they act.
Also this movie has the best representation of Superman in all three films. He’s not destroying buildings or snapping peoples necks. He actually saves people, and lives up to his name as the symbol of hope.
The story for the most part was serviceable. Their end goal here was to establish the characters and make the team aspect work. Which they did. But the villain and most of the action was a generic CG fest. Something I’ve grown very tired of.
It was nice to see them come together. It’s a shame this movie isn’t making as much money as projected. It feels like the DC universe is coming in the right direction and I’m still looking forward to the solo movies in this series.
