Infinity War is a grandiose festivity celebrating 10 year long culmination of Marvel’s journey to box-office and cultural ascendancy. MCU’s 19th entry assembles the franchise’s signature actions, quips, and engrossing character arcs—multiply it by twenty, while injecting a sense of grim and hopelessness; two elements that rarely present among the heroes escapades.

Infinity War unifies plot threads first introduced when Tony publicizes his alter ego to the ones established mere weeks ago in afro-futuristic land of Wakanda. It is a movie with a scale that audiences could barely fathom. This end volume departs from the orthodox superhero storytelling structure by bringing a universe-hopping space-opera-epic. Venturing beloved locales, exploring uncanny team synergies as well as giving us a barrage of gut-busting character interactions.

Cause of Marvel’s tremendous success has always been its well-realized characters. Both expectations and familiarity for the avengers have been hammered into audiences for 10 years. Giving more room to focus on this universe’s big baddy—Thanos. Infinity War at its core is The Mad Titan’s story. An outstanding threat that lingers throughout the film’s runtime despite its disjointed nature. As a villain Thanos transcends physical threat. His presence challenges each of the heroes psyche by proposing the concept of sacrifice—a choice and motivation that each of our heroes have never dealt personally prior.

Infinity War is nothing but a tremendous feat for Marvel. It is the studio’s Magnum Opus and it is the franchise’s official Empire—as in for the first time, audiences are left clueless to where this ship is heading.
