‘The Greatest Showman’ was directed by Michael Gracey and stars Hugh Jackman as P.T. Bernum, who introduced a musical circus, hiring some unique people which ended up being the greatest show around the world at that time when inequalities, discriminations against those curious, coloured people were issued. The story expands from his childhood which was poor to becoming the Greatest Showman with a help from his wife and daughters. This is based on a true story.
This film has received mixed criticism and I think the story was a bit plain but its musical was as good as La la land. Since this film received three Golden Globe nominations including Best Motion Picture, I was kinda excited to see it as well as Hugh Jackman’s performance as P.T. Bernum who really existed a long time ago and I didn’t really know about till I saw this movie. I was quite amazed at what he did in show business that was not that popular at that time and moreover hiring some unique people called freaks but that drew people’s attentions at this show cos they had never seen such thing before. And I came to think that he was one of the people who made the world as equal as he could, doing a show business. That was so impressing that I felt really good when seeing him doing that sort of stuff that could have risked so many stuff that he loved like family but he pulled it off. Though I said the story was a bit shallow, it contains so many meaningful things for us to know. Also it was quite good that they sing songs occasionally especially when they are expressing their emotions: happiness or sadness. I was like watching a part of La la land which I loved. Speaking of their performances that I kinda expected to be great, Hugh Jackman was really good at everything: singing songs, dancing and last but not least, being as P.T. Bernum aka the greatest show man. Though I had expected his performance not to disappoint me cos of Les Miserable, that was more than I imagined. And as you all may agree that he really does fit in a musical film. Lastly, I actually liked Paul Sparks as a critic in this film cos things which happen in this story usually turn into a flourishing way and a kinda depressing way every time he makes an appearance and comments something short to Bernum. He is one of the people who we should pay attention to more I reckon. And we’ll see how this story proceeds. It was an okay film but if you expect it to be as good as like La la land or other marvellous musical films, you’ll probably get disappointed in it so better make your expectations a bit lower.
