"Arrival" was directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Amy Adams as a linguist at a university, who is suddenly offered to join the U.S. Army by Colonel along with a physicist when twelve extraterrestrial spacecraft touch down in twelve locations around the world. And they make contact with aliens, deciphering their complicated circular symbols that make her have visions of herself with her daughter and of their relationship with her husband who left them. All nations and her crew must race against time to find what the aliens arrive to ask them for...
I think this film was too late to be released in Japanese theatres and could be much earlier, even after The Academy Awards ceremony. I'd been wondering why it received a nomination for Best Picture regardless of a sci-fi movie. And it finally turned out that this sci-fi film is not only for fun but like considering ourselves once more like she does in this film. it sometimes makes us really confused to keep up with what aliens are trying to do to humanity and what they are meaning to her. Since the past and presence always mixed up, it's pretty hard to get a clue of this puzzling plot. I assume lots of people think this is a sort of monster film where aliens just invade the world to dominate it, but Arrival is not like that at all. The more we see it, the more we can learn from it. So I need to see it once more though I could understand it on the whole.
