Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the mastermind behind Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, and Arrival, I was very excited to see this movie. It had so much going for it.
Wasn't a huge fan of the original Blade Runner though. I though it had good themes but was very slow and kind of boring. Which is also my opinion for this movie.
With a runtime of 2hrs. 50 min. I was expecting a sci-fi masterpiece of the decade. But it wasn't. I though there were too many scenes that dragged on. Especially the first hour was a snooze.
Also I was really caught off guard that this was mostly Ryan Gosling's movie. This wasn't the Gosling Harrison Ford buddy movie like the trailers made it seem like.
Like the original, the world that they built was like no other sci-fi movie. Villeneuve's framing and cinematography is utilized very well. If there is one director out there who can make this movie as interesting as it is, it's him.
It's once again the thinking man's sci-fi much like the original. And it's definitely one of the rare sequels that manages to stand on its own.
