"The Salesman" was directed by Asghar Farhadi and stars Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidoosti. It's about a young couple living in Iran and making ends meet by stage performances. Once relocated their house from a damaged flat, the previous tenant brutally damaged wife, who was having a shower and dramatically changes their lives, creating a simmering tension between the couple...while husband, who is also a teacher, tries to find the tenant with some clues on his own.
Although this won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film this year, the director and actors boycotted the attendance of the ceremony in protest of the U.S President's order which blocked entry of citizens from Iran and six other Muslim-majority countries to the U.S. Before this issue happened, I hadn't known or payed attention to the film to be honest, moreover had expected that "Land of Mine" from Denmark would win an Oscar just because I supposed that films related to Hitler stuff were just likely to win. Even after The Salesman won an Oscar, I slightly thought that this was like a protest against the President for his policy, which made me more curious about it than before. And I finally won a ticket for the first Premiere of The Salesman and saw it with 50 people at a small theatre. I was blown away by this well-written foreign language film and it made an opportunity for me to see more foreign films. I really appreciate it.
