‘The Post’ was directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep as publishers of a major American newspaper, The Washington Post, who try to catch up with The New York Times by exposing a massive cover-up of government secrets about the Vietnam war. After The New York Times which was revealing a piece of classified information about it was prosecuted and Richard Nixon entirely prohibited it from publishing any news papers as well as the public from reading them, The Washington Post, which was given a chance to catch up with it, collect tons of clandestine details of the government, risking everything on publishing in a quandary whether it really will be a good thing for them to publish and reveal all of the secrets to the public against the President of the United States...

Having learnt about the activities that Richard Nixon and members were surreptitiously doing from the classic film ‘All The President’s Men’ which focuses on two journalists trying to reveal The Watergate Scandal before, I had no trouble understanding this story, which takes place before The Watergate Scandal happens. So I really recommend seeing ‘All The President’s Men’ and learning even a bit about it if you have no idea before seeing The Post. It will probably make it easier to comprehend the entire story and also more exciting in my opinion. Although I was a bit worried about how much I could enjoy this nearly two hour political film on account of finding the classic one a bit slow and sometimes boring, this movie was much better than expected very luckily. Especially in the middle of the film where the members of the Washington Post were in a dilemma whether or not to publish the news papers about truths, racing against time of the deadline. This part really got my eyes kept on the screen till the very end of the film. This film was neither slow nor having any irrelevant scenes.

One of the reasons why I enjoyed this film that much was probably because of the cast: Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, both of whom I really love and admire heaps. Tom Hanks was as usual really fitting into this person, doing whatever he wants without caring about some risks of losing things such as job and saying some ironic stuff to people who are trying to stop him from doing. He was really good in this movie and probably will receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor this year. Whereas Meryl Streep was, as I had expected, telling some funny stuff but trying to do the right thing as the first female publisher, respecting her father. Here’s the point of her performance in this film that as the story gets serious, her expressions on her face gradually change as she did in lots of films. I like her about doing it. Anyway was really good that this film directed by Spielberg and starring these two brilliant actors as well as some other good actors turned out to be marvellous despite this story which sounds a bit heavy for us. I hope you guys can enjoy this movie as much as I did.

Thank you for reading my brief review of ‘The Post’!
