Absolutely brilliant!! Martin McDonaugh does it again!
This is one of those really intriguing stories where one person’s action change the entire motives of the town’s people. Francis McDormand’s decision to put up billboards about her deceased daughter’s rape case causes anger, sorrow, and complexity amongs the people of Ebbing Missouri.
The first half of the movie really focused on Woody Harrelson, who plays the head police chief of Ebbing. The billboards start stirring up mixed emotions for him leading to some unpredictable outcomes.
Sam Rockwell plays one of the police officers in Ebbing. He was someone that started off unlikable. Racist, bigot, and abusing his authority. The billboards change his way of thinking too. Him and Francis McDormand butts heads about the billboards at first.
But once you get to learn his relationship with his mother, and other aspects of his life, you feel bad for the man.
Francis McDormand is given the lead in this movie. She plays a mother in despair, but doesn’t play it the way where were supposed to be sympathetic towards her. She makes some questionable decisions throughout the movie. She’s not a likable person in particular which was really interesting.
It’s the kind of character that doesn’t feel right to be a main character, which is why this movie works so well.
The way this movie progresses was very unpredictable and fun to watch. The way it ended made me want to watch this movie even more.
