Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey - Movie Review (English translation below)
•[日本語] “スーサイドスクアッド”からのマーゴット・ロビー演じるハーレイ・クインを中心に描いた、スピンオフ映画。なぜか、ジョーカーと別れた後から始まる(ほぼ説明なし)。そして、悪役(ブラックマスク)が現れ、ちょっとした仲間とタグをくみ、彼を倒しにいく…
もしこの映画を一言で表すとしたら、古い。物語の進み方、彼らのゴールなどなどがすべてありきたりすぎて薄い。まるで、アクション映画の作り方の教科書(あるとして)をそのままフォローしてるかのようだった。しかしその一方、ハーレイのナレーションと一緒に時代が行ったり来たりするという、物語を完璧に複雑にしてるだけかのように思えるが、ハーレイの頭の中で起きてることと、どれだけ彼女が説明が下手だというの示すために、時間軸をすこし狂わせてるという見方をすれば、意外とスマート。
彼女が主人公の映画なので、“スーサイドスクアッド”では語られなかった彼女の背景は意外と説明されるのだが、ほかのキャラの背景がいがいと適当。けっきょくこの方は何だったのかという事が多かった。とくに悪役のブラックマスクの説明がほぼなしで、なぜ悪になったのかなどが不明。(調べたらやっぱり両親の責任ですね)キャラクターの発展の仕方が壊滅的だった…
いろいろと問題点はあるが、映画撮影のテクニック面はとても素晴らしかった。ハーレイの印象とマッチしたカラーの使い方はとくに見どころでもある。
•[ENG] A spin-off from “Suicide Squad”, primarily focusing on Harley Quinn, once again, played by Margot Robbie takes place after she and Joker broke up, which is only mention in her narration. And...a bad ass (Black Mask) appears and she has to confront him with some of her acquaintances and brah brah brah.
If I had to review this film with only one word, I would say a “cliche” especially in terms of story. It felt like it was just following the very traditional formula of making action films to get people entertained throughout the film with no original idea or element. It was too blend and went on as I could expect. However, I liked when time period sometimes went back and forth with Harley’s narration, making the story a bit complicated to follow but it kinda suggests how messed up her mind is and how bad she is at explaining stuff. I found it interesting and clever.
This film focused too much on Harley Quinn...well we can tell by the title. So we get more efficient amount of her background story which was quite nebulous in “Suicide Squad” but those of other characters were mentioned 100 times less than hers. What is worse, the antagonist: Back Mask played by Ewan McGregor had no background or reasons why he turns into such an evil mentioned at all.
Despite these flaws, filmmaking-wise, it was quite wonderful to see with great cinematography and use of colours that beautifully matched with Harley Quinn’s impression.
