“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” - Movie Review
・ [日本語] この映画は、あのギレルモ・デル・トロによってプロデュース/映画ストーリー作成され、子供向けホラー本に基づいているため、子供でも楽しめるくらいの怖さではあった。
パターンがそれなりにあったため、物語がどう進んでいくのかが よく予想できてしまった。そして、ホラー映画あるあるの驚かせ方だったため(例えば、鏡、キャラクター目線の見せ方など)いつ来るのかも 予想できる。音量はうるさいけれど…だが、出てくるお化けのキャラクターは怖いというより、ギャグ系だったため全体の映画の雰囲気をすこし和らげているように、ぼくは感じた。
しかし、1番の問題点は、重要人物の背景がとても薄くて たびたび起こること重視であったため、すべてが無意味な感じはしてしまった。
でも、この映画は、ハロウィンの日に友達を家によんで、ポップコーンを食べながら なんとなくホラーの雰囲気を楽しむための映画ではあるだろう。ホラーの大ファンの人にとっては、物足りないであろう。
(P.S メインの子供の1人の 襲われ方が、とても怖いというより 気持ち悪かった)
・[ENG] Based on a children’s book and screen story by Guillermo del Toro, it was barely a horror (scary) film with a few elements of scariness and creepiness that even most kids can put up with.
Since there’s a pattern in the storyline like who’s gonna be the next victim and so on it was quite predictable how the story goes toward the end. Also, when it comes to the level of scariness, since the film seemed to be following the traditional way of introducing monsters with a big volume of jump scaring sounds: beds, mirrors, and the POV method, it was all predictable when it would try to jump scare us, although all of the creatures that appear in each section of the story were more hilarious than scary so that their distinctive traits were tendering the whole mood of the film.
However, the main issue in this film was that the explanation of the background of the main character that causes scary phenomena was quite vague so that the weird events the film mostly consists of looked a bit redundant on account of its scarcity.
Nevertheless, it should be a type of films that we watch round Halloween with a bunch of mates at home, eating popcorn in order to get some gloomy atmosphere. But this film wouldn’t really entertain those who are hard-core fans of horror flicks.
(P.S the way one of the main kids get victimised was visually disgusting and disturbing, albeit nothing scary)
