Dolemite is My Name - Movie Review (English translation below)
•[日本語] ぼくの大好きなスタンドアップコメディアン、エディ・マーフィーが、あの実在したラップの王様とも言われているRudy Ray Mooreとして、彼の自伝映画に帰ってきた！エディの演技はいつも思うけれど歳をとってもユーモアと一緒に絶好調で見ていて、どうしても爆笑してしまう。彼の演技はこの映画に迫力を出すため、調味料みたいな感じで活躍している。喋り方、ジョークの言い方、罵り方、すべてRudyにそっくり。
演技といえば、彼だけではなく、ほかの俳優(例えば、マーベル映画の“ブレイド”で名前をあげたウェズリースナイプスやDa’Vine)の演技も抜群だった。
ほぼ全てのカメラショットがまるで、70年代の街を見ているかのようによく撮られていた。セット、照明もすべてその時代に合わせた感じで雰囲気を作り出していた。Rudyが映画を作っているところのシーンは、本物そっくりにうまく作られていて、実際の映画の裏側を見ている感じで、リアル感がつよい。
でも少し気になったのは、この映画のストーリーのフォーカス。Rudyの伝記映画とはいえ、彼がレコードを作りはじめてから、映画を作り終わるまでの期間なのだが、映画製作の風景にとてもフォーカスを置いていて、彼自身の背景や生活があまり描かれていなかったのが、すこし欠点。だが、映画全体的に見ると恐らく、今年の映画でトップ10に入るであろう。
•[ENG] One of the legendary stand-up comedians - Eddie Murphy has come back as Rudy Ray Moore, aka Dolemite for this biographical film based on Rudy’s life. Eddie’s performance totally achieved to spice up the entire film with his deft delivery of various kinds of humour. He just knows how to be funny and at the same time making the audiences happy through that way he cracks up jokes and curses which was done quite heaps.
Other actors such as Wesley Snipes (well-known for Blade) and Da’Vine we’re also fantastic in the film, showcasing their great transformation into each real-life character with the tones of their voices or expressions.
Almost every shot of the film was done pretty well, especially set decorations and lighting in order to make it as authentic as could be. It totally looked as if we were actually seeing behind-scene footages of these actual people on set because of its great filmmaking. Even the multiple shots of the made-up Dolemite movie in this film are being played, because of the amazing authenticity, looked amazingly real.
One of the issues in the film if I had to say would be the way the film follows Rudy’s life from where he was making records up until he makes his first motion picture. And the film is too much focused on his filmmaking and it could’ve been slightly better if the film had focused more on his background and shown a bit of his life after making the film.
