I don't know about this real event so I can't compare the movie to the real story.
Whenever I see Americans history movies I feel sad about racism. In this movie, it was clear enough to see everything was not equal and fair even in the justice system.
It's a good movie to know American history and nowadays, there are many protest actions all over the world regarding many things. I just hope the movie or protest actions would not mislead people who just want to riot without thinking anything.
