somehow feels like a good movie to watch when you're sick. like when you start feeling ill on a sunday and then you watch something in the evening knowing you likely won't be going to work the next day, this is the kind of movie you would watch. maybe you're not even paying complete attention to what exactly the love quarrel here consists of; you're fully content to watch these people try to live life in their warmly colour graded apartments. the streets, the rooftops, the utility poles, playing shiritori with yourself on the way home, the trains, trees, kimonos, the sea, tomoyo harada's fabulous hairdo. it seems to really go out of its way to communicate a sense of warmth and comfort despite the heartbreak unfolding in the script.
