First and foremost this film was a fun and comedic experience that opened my eyes to this genre of comedic films from the 60’s. The story itself is satiric and doesn’t take itself seriously, yet Zeman gets his opinions of war across. What I liked is that while the subject he’s dealing with is real and heavy, the way he gets his message across is still done in a way where you can still get a laugh. While apparently is work with animation here is done to a lesser degree than those of his other pictures, this nevertheless was an fun and intriguing example of how animation and real performances can be brought together. I now see why directors like Tim Burton and Wes Anderson have found inspiration from Zeman’s works, and I’m excited to see another.
