First film I’ve seen by Jarmusch. I was intrigued by the concept and the film did not disappoint.

I liked the concept of having these five encounters occur simultaneously. It contributes to the feeling or realisation of how expansive our world is, how diverse the human experience can be, and for some of the stories, the depth of human compassion and empathy.

The setting of the “taxi” was a great choice in that in creates an intimate environment as well as creates a natural environment/opportunity to combine two strangers (especially like in this case, two completely different people from different backgrounds) together for an extended period of time. The rapport that’s made in these singular interactions, especially as a the viewer in context of the pandemic, also made me come to further realise our need and capacity to be social and interact with others. In a way the taxi creates this setting where these connections are like a single moment in time - it’s unlikely any of these people will meet again, yet meaning stories still rise, like the morning sun in the final frames.
