While the first Pacific Rim was certainly far from what we would consider as high-art, Del Toro’s passion and above all stylistic presence were more than enough fuel to elevate what seemingly just another rock’ em sock’ em CGi mayhem. Uprising, is exactly that—a hollow undesired next chapter exist to only cater to the lowest common denominator, with brand extension (read: merchandising) being its ultimate agenda.
