Sonic the Hedgehog - Movie Review (English translation below)
•[日本語] ソニックのゲームをほぼ1度もやったことないため、あまり楽しめなかったっていうのがほとんど。いろいろと問題になったソニックのデザインで、けっこう見る気になったためファンの方はMy Reviewをあまり信用しないほうがbetter. まずは新しくデザインされたソニックは思ったよりよかった。そして、悪役のジム・キャリーはいつも通り、爆笑させてくれた。
思ってた通り、ストーリーはかなり普通。大して面白くない。ほとんど子供向けの映画なので、くだらないジョークだらけであった。そして、ほかのビデオゲーム系映画と別にしたいのか、現在のトレンドなのか知らないが、ストーリー全体の後半から始まり最初に戻っていくという余計なものつき脚本が気に入らない。脚本にも必ずメッセージはあるが、この映画の明らかなメッセージが伝えるというよりも、ストーリーの間にできる穴を埋めるためのものにしか見えなかった。それほどうまく保たれてなかったし、強調もされてなかったと感じた。
おそらく、ソニックファンorジム・キャリーファンなら最低映画全編の半分は楽しめるとおもう。思った通りの映画って感じ。
•[ENG] First of all, I have almost no connections with Sonic games even though I was born in Tokyo so that it’s gonna be different for those who are a fan of the games to feel about the film (just a warning). On account of the controversies especially about the design of Sonic in the very first trailer, I got somehow interested in checking out the film, although it was re-designed after all and it got much better looking. That is the main reason and also Jim Carrey as a villain. He was as always cracked me up throughout the film.
The story was as I expected full of cliches and some cheesy jokes for kids which made me roll my eyes. I am not sure if it’s become a trend or something to start the film from the penultimate and reverses into where the plot actually starts. I kinda considered it an irrelevant action, maybe to make it more different or unique from other video game based films, perhaps? One of the messages that is particularly for the target audiences: kids didn’t seem to be maintained well. It was used more like a filler to some gaps to prolong the story as opposed to delivering it.
As I said in the beginning, for those who either wanna see Sonic or Jim Carrey being hilarious go watch it. You can enjoy at least half the film like I did. Overall, it was watchable but not that good.
