いい映画だった。
カルベッロは不遇な人生を歩み続けたため少なくとも深刻な厭世観をもっていただろうが、それは逆に瞬間瞬間を生きる素晴らしさに開眼する楽天的人生観へと転換したのだろう。地獄を知る者のみ天国を仰ぎ見ることができるように。
その楽天的人生観は、利他的精神(テリーを介抱・説教し、求婚されてもネヴェルと結びつけようとする優しさ)を育んだ。
ただ、こんなに物事を達観する人間が道化として人を笑わせるのは難しい。それは本人も自覚している。
でもカルベッロにとって舞台に立ち、人を笑わせるという″desire″こそ″life″であり、生きることは避けられないことだと自覚している以上、それを抑えることは到底できない。
そんな″desire″をサクラを集めて実現させてくれる人、それはカルベッロが助けたテリーなのだ。この人間関係が本当に温かく、観ていてとても心地がいい。
