Watching this movie with a unique perspective as a physics researcher and Japanese citizen myself, I to some extent related to Oppenheimer leading the project. I presume that it is always tough to be honest as a scientist on the one hand and to be loyal to the nation or whatever you belong to on the other hand. History classes in Japan often emphasize tragic aspects of the atomic bombs yet these are outcomes from a number of correlated events. Short and simple words are useful to stress an important conclusion not to make a wrong decision again however it’s also important to learn how such conclusions were made. That has made me think how I should behave as a researcher and what I should contribute to in my career.
