クリント・イーストウッド監督主演のアメリカ建国200周年記念作品。
南北戦争末期。北軍ゲリラに妻子を殺された農民出身のアウトロー"ジョージー・ウェールズ"の復讐劇と、その道中で出会った人々との交流を描くロードムービー。
"I guess we all died a little in that damn war."
ザ・ウエスタン。めっちゃ好き。
メインストーリーの復讐劇と、"はみ出し者"達の疑似家族ドラマが並行して描かれる。仲間との交流により、凄惨な過去から立ち直っていく。
人種、職種、年齢、性別、様々な人間が登場する。西部劇という伝統的なアメリカを舞台に、多民族国家アメリカの目指すべき道を示すような作品に思えた。
ジョージー・ウェールズがコマンチ族の長と男の契りを交わす場面が熱い。先住民の元酋長とのユーモアに富んだ掛け合いも心地良かった。
汚ぇ唾吐き。弾切れ二丁拳銃。粋なラスト。
