when you watch footage of yasuko tomita performing live it's quite evident she's not the best singer (there's a youtube video of a tv show performance where her voice cracks kind of awkwardly while singing, sadly i fail to remember which one that was) but still, to my sensitivities, so many of her songs are such joyous popping tunes, including 渚のドルフィン which serves as the theme for this early movie of hers (following her debut aiko 16 sai). maybe it wouldn't be profitable but i will forever hold the responsible distributors in brightly burning scorn for not making gems like these more easily accessible to watch. the tape sure is one of my pricier acquisitions. its novelty as a somewhat rare showa idol flick that maybe a total of two hands full of people care about aside, the most interesting thing about it might be getting to hear yasuko's soft & sweetly spoken kansaiben. it's a fairly simple seaside youth film set in shingu that all but breezes by and left me wondering what precisely had happened at all. the romance isn't given much room to blossom for the audience, and besides that there seem to be a few ideas for something you could consider thematic elements none of which it really establishes or follows through on. i'm probably the last person to care about that, though, and felt fully content with the scenic shots of the sea while 渚のドルフィン plays over and over. my favourite moment however is when a downhearted yasuko tomita strolls through the streets of osaka; here's a video in which some of the locations are tracked down: youtu.be/XIQ3RO6G74w
