すごく詳しいというわけではないけどエミリ・ディキンソンは好き。生涯結婚しなくて家に篭ってて死後に引き出しから小さな紙切れにかいた大量の詩がでてきたって話はあまりに有名だけど、日本じゃそれほど知名度がないよね
アドリエンヌ・リッチの「家庭のヴィラボス火山」というエッセイで言ってたみたいに、エミリ・ディキンソンといえば内気で従順で可愛らしい女の子みたいなイメージがどうしてもまとわりついているんじゃないかと思うけど、ホークアイのケイト・ビショップ役でおなじみヘイリーは変人ででも現代ならちょっとトリッキーだけどフツーの女の子って感じ。パーティとかドラッグとか"あんたちょーwoke(目覚めてる、意識高い人、みたいな意味のスラング)じゃん"みたいな台詞があったりとか全体的にコメディテイストで現代のスクールドラマ的な感じに描きつつも南北戦争、奴隷制、黒人差別、女性差別もしっかり正面から見据えている。とくに北部であるとはいえ厳しい人種差別を経験する黒人のヘンリーとシェイクスピアの読書会のエピソードを通じてエミリ・ディキンソンの特権性にまで踏み込んだ5話が好き。Netflixとかで観れるようになればもっと人気出そうなんだけどな
