I've not read the original novel and won't do, but in my opinion, this ending suits as a movie.
I prefer the first one or the second one than this.
Which side are you on?
Kill a half population of the world to avoid human extinction.
Or don't kill a half population of the world and human would completely extinct after a hundred year.
