Even though he became totally different looking, I felt he is still he. He chose that way, because he realized that nobody protects him even people who he loves or loved. In my opinion, he eventually could get a right place for his peace.
Compared with La la land, honestly I can't. It's so hard to compare, because both of them have really different colors and tastes.
Many people could sympathize with La la land.
