“A Ghost Story” stars Casey Affleck as C and Rooney Mara as M. They are a couple who just moved into a house, where M hears something such as a sound from the piano. I think most people would think it’s like a stereotypical Hollywood horror movie and I actually thought of it like that before seeing it but it was not. It was a very sad story about this man who comes back as a ghost but he never tries to scare people just keeps standing and watching the residents in that house, feeling sad about what’s happening at present. He is just all alone weeping inside his heart. This movie only shows people’s emotions especially C as a ghost and M left alone in that house. Both emotions are just levelled off, even M gets a new relationship with another man she finds that no one can be superior to C and the big hole in her heart cannot be mended by anything or anyone. And then C keeps watching her in that state miserably. How sad story it is. I could never expected it to be that miserable and even after the movie finished, I could not stand up and go away till the end of the closing credits. I kept thinking and organising everything that happened including the change of their emotions in my head. There were very few dialogues in the movie, I think half of them are Spanish with no subtitles though. The story is told with the expressions on her face and expressions hidden under the white ghost garment. So the movie is pretty quiet with the background music that is played very softly and no noises can be heard through the entire story. Although this movie seems like a horror stuff because of the title with a word Ghost, we could call this movie more like a drama or tragic and very sad drama than horror. I think everyone who saw or will see this movie would find themselves having no words, I mean in a sad way. I used the word Sad so many times here to describe this film but this is real sad. I cannot come up with any other words other than sad, miserable or like that sort of adjectives to tell what this movie is like. Most of Casey Affleck’s appearance is covered by the ghost cloak but I could see his expression on his face with nothing but sorrow and Rooney Mara’s character M does not change her expression at all that makes up almost everything of this movie I think. I don’t recommend watching this movie when you feel depressed or feeling sad cos it’d probably just make your emotion worse and you could not be happy. I think its really enough for this sort of movie to run for only 90 minutes. Thank you for reading my brief review of “A Ghost Story“!!
