"The Big Sick" was directed by Michael Showalter and stars Kumail Nanjiani as himself and Zoe Kazan playing as Emily. Kumail is a Pakistani comic, whose parents bring him some girls from Pakistan coming for a date with him, which might lead him to get married to one of the girls but to no avail. He finds none of them attractive, just putting some photos of theirs in a box. One day, he meets a white girl, Emily at one of his stand-up shows. They soon fall in love with each other. The problem is that even their love gets deeper and deeper, they cannot get married in a wake of one of the rules that he must follow: to get married a girl from Pakistan. Otherwise, he ends up leaving his family. Irritated by the fact that he's been hiding from her till she realises, they get a fight and get apart...A few days later when she comes down with an illness, Kumail finds himself developing a bond with her parents.

This film focuses on an interracial couple of Pakistani and a white girl. I wouldn't like the rule that we can only get married to a girl having the same nationality if I were him...it doesn't make any sense! Well, speaking of which, one of the greatest classic romance film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" starring Sidney Poitier also focuses on an interracial couple of a coloured person and a white woman, which brought up a controversy at that time. It's a great plot! but didn't expect that this kind of film still would come out as a new topic, which is really interesting. Unlike Guess who's coming to dinner full of seriousness and a bit darkness, there are lots of humour in The Big Sick. Laugh at them at theatres!

Thank you for reading my brief review of "The Big Sick", hopefully coming out in 2018 in Japan!
