•«見た目からして静かで気の弱そうな男の子が、”ギャングスター系”仲間に入る。そして色々な新しいことを経験する…»といった意外とシンプルな感じの映画。あらすじを聞いただけではシンプルだが、実際蓋を開けてみると、1人1人のキャラクターの中に潜んでいる”問題”がそのシンプルというものを180°変える。1.33のアスペクト比で届けられることから、ある1人のキャラクターが作った映画を見ているかのよう…この映画の監督ジョナ・ヒルの子供のときのことというのも伝わってくる。
•This story focuses on a boy who bends in a community that he seems not to fit in and consequently makes so-called “gangster friends” (referred by his mother) and experiences new things. This sounds such a simple story. Yes, indeed I admit that. Yet, the amount of emotional conflicts, complications and all hiding inside of each “troubled” character soon breaks its simple façade of the story. With the aspect ratio of 1.33, it feels as if we were watching a film created by a character who wants to be a filmmaker within a story...maybe a future self of Jonah Hill?
