I learned a new German word in this episode: “Weltschmerz.” It literally means “world” (Welt) + “pain” (Schmerz), and it describes the sadness and exhaustion that come from realizing how imperfect and disappointing the world is. It’s that romantic-era idea of feeling crushed by the gap between ideals and reality — a kind of emotional world-weariness. It’s a little like the Japanese concept of mono no aware, but with a much darker, more pessimistic tone. And that final moment when Sheldon throws it right back at them? Absolutely perfect.
