Anyway.
I love the beginning of this movie being filled with music, vibrant lights, and really fast cuts in between scenes. It’s like a rapid slideshow of events. Then when the men are sent to handle the annulment, the music is gone and the movie starts really sitting with a scene as it plays out in its entirety. And the end credits being dead silent except for the windshield wipers! Just wow.
Mikey Madison did an amazing job. Anora had this bravado and used a lot of vulgar language to hide how scared and fragile she was. Like the fucking low-level employees sent to retrieve her were kinder to her than Ivan. She wanted so badly to be part of a family with a man that loved her. And all the scenes of Igor just silently watching her, and seeing her.
I really love the ending, too. Anora has never felt like anything but an object for men to fuck— and so she assumes Igor is like any other man. And when he initiates a kiss, it’s something too intimate for her, and she breaks down. The way he just held her while she sobbed broke my heart!!! Such amazing acting here.
People say Anora was too much of a bitch and should have been kinder. But she was genuinely traumatized and scared, and her husband literally abandoned her. He promised her he was serious about marriage and completely threw her under the bus. Her lashing out was her only way of protecting herself.
Post-credits, I hope Anora and Igor become friends at the very least!
