Day 2 of Koyabu Sonic, which sadly is being held for the final time this year.😭
As the venue, packed with NEWS fans in orange shirts, came alive during their performance of “Ikiro (Live!),” I found myself thinking about this movie: “What a great song! It feels like it would fit the movie I’m seeing tomorrow, too.”
I’m not very good at making absolute statements, but I’m going to take the liberty of declaring that I was probably the only person in that entire venue thinking about this movie while watching NEWS light up the stage.🫡
The next day at the theater, as I watched images of the cleanly dressed, stark-white halves of cattle hanging there, a question suddenly occurred to me: why do we have monkfish cutting demonstrations and tuna-cutting shows, but nothing like that with cattle?
And I felt that I found the answer in something the man who worked at the slaughterhouse said while talking to elementary school children about discrimination.
It also seemed to me that the same reason was connected to the broader circumstances that had given rise to the discrimination in the first place, and the sheer unfairness of it made my heart ache.
