Sean Baker が作る映画はかなり好みかも
Lots of low shots, resembling the children’s point of view.
Story of a community.
How they are so close yet so far from the land of dreams.
I like the ending sequence which is most likely a scenario of the girl’s imagination and desire to save Moonie.
Tying in the harsh realities with the fact that “kids will be kids” was interesting, and gives us mixes feelings.
The children seem like normal kids, but throughout the film we catch glimpses of them being used to things that would be abnormalities in other households. The boy doesn’t react when he sees his mother get whooped, Moonie straight up is exposed by her mother’s “customer”. Their reactions tell us that despite being kids, these children have gone through some heavy shit.
