Portrait of a Lady on Fire - Movie Review (English translation below)
・[日本語] フランス映画最高に美しい映画。全てのシーンを絵に描けるくらい美しい。ビューティーがスクリーン上だけではなく、ストーリーからも溢れ出ていた。
他の映画と違って、あまりテンションを上げたり下げたりするようなあまりない。なので2人のキャラクターが自然の音と一緒に何も喋らないというシーンもけっこうある。しかし、進みはスローだとしてもストーリーすぐにのめり込んでしまう。まるで1人で海辺に時間を忘れながら、波の音を聞きながら横になってるって感じだった。とても見ていて気持ちが良い。
本編中、2人のキャラクターがお互いをなにも喋らず見つめあってるシーンがよくある。話が進んでいくたびに、彼らの見つめ方が徐々に変わっていく。同時に、ストーリー上に静かでスイートなものが足されている。これは2人の素晴らしい演技のおかげだ。ほぼ顔の表情で物語を語っており、美しさも彼らからとても出ていた。

•[ENG] What an amazing artistic masterpiece from France. The film was as if I were watching a compilation of paintings. Every shot of scenes could be painted exactly the way they were presented in the film. This absolutely achieved to create its own beauty coming from both the picture as well as its amazing story.
There are not that many elements that I create the tension or bring up a particular mood in the story and therefore, full of plenty of shots which are brimmed with nothing but these two being silent and ambient sounds like winds and ocean weaves. However, we can naturally find ourselves investing in this slow burning story. In other words, it felt like we were gazing at the exquisite ocean at the beach all alone, forgetting time passing. Still, we feel something comfy inside ourselves.
We see a lot of close-up shots where they gaze at each other with no words. The way they see each other generally changes right to the end. This has a profound effect on generating sweetness and serenity in the atmosphere. They all are thanks to these two terrific performances that mostly consist of face expressions imbuing the film with beauty with no help from dialogues.
