再見。『暗殺のオペラ』と並ぶベルトリッチの最高傑作だと思うし、『レヴェナント』のような音響的音楽を除けば坂本龍一の映画音楽の一つの到達点だと思う。
ラスト、モロッコの場末のカフェに迷い込んだデブラ・ウィンガーに語りかけたボウルズが自身の原作小説の一節を朴訥と語る。
"Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."
坂本龍一は晩年このテキストをどのような思いで反芻したのか。「fullmoon」でのベルトリッチの地声で記録されたイタリア語の響きと共に、「迷子になった」現代人の向かう先をかろうじて（雲間に隠れつつも）照らすものとして今後少なくとも自分にとってはふとしたときにいつも耳元で執拗に、生々しく繰り返される異言となる予感。
