Although I obviously knew Wham!, and also the fact that George was gay, I’d never taken it seriously what it meant for him at that time especially considering the social situation at that time. Yes, if you are that young in your 20s and that cute, people would talk and ask around about “girls” they had. But just by addressing it only as “girls”, it could put them in agony. What is normal today didn’t used to be normal back then, well still much room to improve today though.
Honestly I knew so little or almost nothing about Andrew, but he was super lovely. He had been the inspiration of Wham! and George, acknowledged his skills and George’s outstanding talent, yet determined to let him go when necessary. Being best friends with a band member seems easy but I reckon it’s the most difficult thing. So lovely story.
