「ワンス・アポン・ア・タイム三部作」の二作目。
メキシコ革命に翻弄されるメキシコ人山賊と、アイルランド人爆弾魔の物語。
西部劇というより、二人の男の友情物語であり、革命の暴力性を描いた戦争映画であった。
見応えのあるヒューマンドラマではあったが、中弛み感が否めず、セルジオ・レオーネ監督の作品の中では好きな作品ではなかった。
オープニングシークエンス(立ちションから始まる駅馬車の痛快な強奪劇)と、大迫力の爆破シーンがハイライト。
回想シーンへのカットバックが特徴的。
中毒性のある「ションションション♪」と、全てを失い途方に暮れる革命の英雄フアンの顔が忘れられない。
