『Erfindung einer Sprache（直訳：言語の発明）』という短編小説に基づいて描かれた映画。実際に収容所内で起きたことではないけど、あらゆる実話を集めて現実に近い作品にはなっているそう。
映画内でフランス語とドイツ語が話されている通り、舞台はフランスの北東に位置するナッツヴァイラー・ストリュートフ収容所が舞台。
ヴァディム・パールマン監督は旧ソビエトのウクライナ出身、難民としてヨーロッパに移り、カナダの大学で映画を学ぶ。この作品はロシア、ドイツ、ベラルーシによる共作。
嘘がバレるかも知れないとハラハラドキドキする目的で観るスリラー映画ではない。ナチス占領下の収容所で何万とあっただろう人々の生涯を映したもの。現実性には少し疑念が残るけど(後述)、こうした思考の下で生き延びた人々が存在するのもまた事実なんだろう。
I would say he was merely a lucky one. It’s not too difficult to find someone else who understands Persian in Nazi Germany if they speak Hebrew or Yiddish which are not too far from Persian - their alphabet even share from Arabic letters as well, meaning their sounds from the same phonogram are more or less similar.
But I would also imagine it’s possible to barely make up words and scam someone having zero background on these languages - so he managed to do this to a camp’s cook this time.
