I remember Focus being popular with my friends and family when it was realised in 2015, and so when I saw that it was on Netflix I made sure to give it a watch. I knew the film was about hustlers and con artists and I was interested to see what twists could be given, however, it seemed that there were many unnecessary tangents which did lead me to get bored at points.
There were as said unnecessary tangents and underwhelming reveals, such as Nicky’s (Will Smith) father. It seems to me like a typical Hollywood film about the art of a con, there were elements that reminded me of films such as Ocean’s Eleven and Out of Sight, however on a much smaller-scale.
Neither the dialogue nor storytelling is clever enough to mask that the plot is simple and shallow. The film isn’t a necessarily a bad rom-con film, but it is easily forgettable in contrast to others.
