音楽を愛し、人種差別を憎め
ROCK AGAINST RACISM
というムーブメントを追った作品だった。
先日鑑賞した福田村事件に感化されたわけではないけど、the clash のあまりにも有名な名曲white riotを冠した映画を見かけたので鑑賞。
1970年代の経済的に不安定だったイギリスの物語。
パンク、モッズ、スキンズ、その後の2toneなど、どの音楽も好きだけど、その背景について無知だったことを痛感。
白人至上主義とナチズムへの反抗、否定。
人種差別やセクシャリティへの理解など、音楽の激しさとは裏腹に実に思慮深い文化と政治的な背景があることを知った。
この映画に従うなら自分はwhite riotの歌詞を正しく理解していなかったし、イギリスやその他ヨーロッパに蔓延る人種問題なども理解していなかったと分かっただけでも観て良かった。
ジョー・ストラマーは何にしても格好良かったけど、白い暴動の歌詞を再読することにした。
